Tucked along the tranquil curve of West Cork’s coast, Courtmacsherry is a place where the sea is never far, and the past whispers through the salt air. Each summer, this seaside village comes alive in a wave of colour, music, and celebration for the beloved Courtmacsherry Harbour Festival—a time when generations gather, and every corner of the harbour hums with life—a Celebration Born of the Sea. The festival was born out of a deep love for the village and its harbour.
What began nearly half a century ago as a simple gathering of neighbours—rowing races, a dance in the hall, a pint on the pier—has grown into a cherished tradition, deeply woven into the fabric of Courtmacsherry life. Locals still recall those first festival days: children with sunburned noses racing in sack races, boats blessed under blue skies, and stories swapped over steaming mugs of tea and homemade bakes. That spirit remains—the heart of the festival has never changed.

What to Expect Today, The modern Harbour Festival is a vibrant blend of old and new. There’s something for everyone: Traditional Boat Races & Regatta Day Watch the harbour fill with sails and spray as crews compete with pride and passion. The Infamous Slippery Pole A test of balance, bravery, and good humour—will you make it to the end without a splash? Street Performers & Music on the Promenade From trad sessions to upbeat bands, the soundtrack of the festival is pure joy. Teddy bear picnic & Kiddies’ Discos Magical moments for little ones, with games, crafts, dancing, and delight.
And in between it all: laughter, sunshine (fingers crossed!), the scent of seaweed and barbecue, and the warm welcome of the people who call this place home. A Living Tradition The Harbour Festival is more than an event—it’s a homecoming. Many families time their summer holidays to return for it. It marks reunions, first dances, last hurrahs, and countless memories made beside the tide. Even for first-time visitors, there’s a sense of belonging. It’s a festival that invites you in, sits you down, and hands you a cup of tea or a cold pint while the music plays on.
This Year’s Festival: 26th July – 4th August As the bunting goes up and boats are polished to a gleam, the excitement is already building. We invite you to join us—whether you come for a day or stay the week. Come for the craic, for the community, for the stories you’ll carry with you long after the waves have quieted.
